Curious Comedy Theater tweaks the comedy-club formula with inventive improvisation, sketch, and multidisciplinary merrymaking, wiping smiles onto the faces of comedy fans in an intimate performance space with a full bar. Headed up by Stacey Hallal, the players tote their skills to Curious Comedy Theater from diverse theater, standup, and arts scenes. During the Curious Comedy Cover Show (Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from June 29 to July 28), a rotating cast of local comedians reacquaints laugh-hungry audiences to classic routines originally performed by beloved comedy stars. Curious Comedy Presents Instant Comedy (August 3–28) blurs the boundaries between standup and improv by challenging Portland-area funnypeople to MacGyver new, unpracticed standup routines out of audience suggestions, all interspersed with improvised sketches by the Curious Comedy Playas.
